the word "stutus" is always present in the lower left hand corner next to "start"
the following is displayed on screen in an error message block:"the path "1" cannot be found. verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package "status.msi" in a folder from which you can install the product status........the other message is.:the feature you trying to use is on a cd rom or other removable disc that is not available....insert the status disc and click ok.................besides this pc, i also have an HP notebook computer..a few months ago, i wanted to install microsoft streets and maps on the notebook, and use the notebook as a GPS..because the note book uses a dail up cell link, the speed was very slow, so, a friend suggested that i download streets and maps on my PC, and then transfer it to a flash drive, plug that into the notebook and down load it quicker..that did not work..since then this error message is "always" on my pc..I also cannot remove streets and maps from my PC. when i'm in the "add or remove programs" screen, a message tells me to finsh the application that is opened. i can still opperate the pomputer in normal fashon. if i let the computer sit idle for a few seconds, these error messages come up and dominate the screen.the only other thing to mention is that at the time i was trying to transfer streets and maps, my pc was not connected to the web, as i just moved to this new location, and did not set up internet service with a local provider..i briefly used the pc for transferring pictures to " my pictures" and using the printer, all of which worked ok, and still does. ..any help would be greatly appreciated !!!1 person needs an answerI do too

Hi scram1, 1. I would suggest you to run online virus scan on your computer to check any malware or virus activity. Below links will help you run scan on the computer.http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm 2. Boot the computer in clean boot and check if the issue still persists. Below link will help you in booting the computer in clean boot:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353If the issue does not persist you may continue with step 2 from the above link. Clean boot helps us in finding out if any third-party application or software is conflicting and causing this issue.Make sure you reset the computer to normal mode from section “Steps to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state” after the troubleshooting is complete. Shucks, sorry. Well I get to say this, when Microsoft Support might not. Simply try another free online scanner. I like the ESET one... http://www.eset.com/online-scannerRegards, Dave

thanks again dave for your help..I contacted a friend of mine who is pretty sharp with windows..he is going to get into my computer from his home pc and check it out on line..I had him do this in the past for another problem I was having..it's kind of strange watching the arrow move on it's own, and the screen changing without me touching anything..like it's possessed...thanks again....marc
